Extase
Inspired by Georges Perec's book Tentative d'épuisement d'un lieu parisien (1975), Extase is an exploration of the erotic potential of Carré Saint-Louis in Montreal, Canada. Immersed in the space for three months, I documented its sensual possibilities while highlighting its patriarchal and colonial construction.
The still lifes in the Extase series capture different stages of a bouquet of flowers, celebrating the ephemeral and ever-changing nature of living beings. These still lifes intertwine with other drawings in the series that critique the permanence of commemorative monuments.
The project was exhibited in February 2021 at the Centre de diffusion et d’expérimentation (CDEx) in Montreal, Canada.
